C&S Caboose

Here is a caboose scatchbuilt by Tom Mix using styrene for the basic body and brass for the trucks and details. Notice the interesting contrast of the shiny marker lamps and the brick red carbody. It looks real. Beautiful work!

CB&Q caboose

Here is another caboose scatchbuilt by Tom Mix using styrene for the
basic body and brass for the trucks and details. The CB&Q caboose has
a scatch built pair of pedestal trucks. These trucks are done in brass
and are sprung and full brake rigging. Notice the interesting contrast
of the shiny marker lamps and the brick red carbody. It looks real. Beautiful
work!

CB&Q Brill Model 250

Tom Mix converted this imported brass model of a Brill Model 250 gas electric to Proto: 48. He then added detail, interior, paint and lettering to reflect his favorite railroad.

Milwaukee Road Boxcar

Here is a scratchbuilt boxcar done by Tom Mix. It is a Milwaukee Road prototype built by the Bettendorf Car Company. The model was built using styrene with individual nut and bolt details on the "Z" braces.

UTLX 6000 gallon Tank Car

Tom converted a Grandt Line On3 kit for a UTLX 6000 gallon tank car kit into standard gauge. The prototype for the narrow gauge car actually started out in life as a standard gauge car.

The conversion was simple. It entailed a new set of trucks and some modifications to the bolsters and coupler pockets. The trucks that Tom used are scracthbuilt from brass and are fully sprung.
