Robert’s latest work focused on two new automobile cars.
The first is the 40” Texas & New Orleans A-50-4 class car. He built this from styrene using ends salvaged off of old Intermountain reefer bodies. The sides were built up from strip Evergreen styrene and detailed with Grandt Line nuts and bolts and rivets from Tichy. The couplers and trucks are from San Juan. Robert used a couple of RL Designs decal sets to finish the car.

The second project Robert built was this classic Southern Pacific A-50-6 50’ automobile car. This is one of the all-time favorite cars that steam era modelers want to have in the collection. Robert’s rendering captured the feel and look of the prototype. Construction followed the railroad’s general arrangement drawings along with information contained in Tony Thompson’s Southern Pacific Freight Cars Volume 3. The decals were from a RL Design set.

Robert has a strong interest in the late Paul Larson’s modeling and articles. Paul did an article for RMC that showed a number of interesting buildings that compliment the railroad scene. One of the buildings was the basis of this project that Robert has been working on. It is a building that captured this editor’s interest as attested by my well worn copy of the magazine. Robert used Evergreen materials to build the basic structure. He still has some work to do but the model looks really good.
