CMO Fowler Boxcar

Robert Leners just finished this interesting St. Louis San Francisco single sheathed boxcar. He used Evergreen styrene to build up the sides, roof, doors and underframe. The ends were taken from an Intermountain reefer. They had to be narrowed and shortened to match the prototype car dimensions. The model is based upon a drawing that appeared in the August 1995 issue of the Mainline Modeler. The model has over 1500 Grandt Line nut and bolt castings along with a bunch of Tichy rivet heads. Robert used decals from RL Design, Microscale and Oddball. The hardware is all San Juan including trucks, AB brake equipment and couplers. A very fine model!

Robert has been building ¼" scale models for years. Most of his previous work has been in On3. In last few years, he has been doing a number of P48 standard gauge models. Many of his models have been inspired by the late Paul Larson, former editor of Model Railroader in the late 1950's. Robert has been working on some rolling stock from kits and scratch built. He also has done a number of really neat structures. The GN single sheathed boxcar was built from a Chooch Ultra Scale II kit. The Rock Island car started out as a Rio Grande Fowler car. It has new styrene roof and a modified door. The lettering was pieced together from several sets. RL Design now sells the correct lettering for this car. The factory is based upon a Larson construction article in RMC many years ago. Robert named the building after a long-time friend. The third model is a Swift reefer patterned after a Paul Larson Model Railroader article. Robert used styrene for the body and underframe with San Juan AAR trucks and AB brake system. The lettering came from Clover House dry transfers”

Robert Leners had added another beautiful model to his collection. His latest effort is a Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railroad Fowler Patent boxcar. Robert built the car out of styrene strip and sheet. He added Grandt Line and Tichy rivets and bolt heads to the basic body as detail. The trucks, couplers and K-brake are all from San Juan Car Company. He pieced together the lettering from two different Microscale decal sets.
