| Jim built this neat little freight
house and painted it in SP colors. The layout is located in
his three-car garage in the Reno area.

| An Oriental Limited SP GP-9 leads a
short freight past one of the layout's many detailed scenes.
This locomotive was also converted by Jim with commercial wheels.

 |
| Jim Harper's Proto48 Southern Pacific
F-7 units started out as Key Models O gauge units. He converted
them using wheels made by Protocraft. Jim photographed them
on his large layout. The layout is loosely based upon SP operations
in California. Jim's track is all hand-spiked with individual
tie plates and four spikes per tie. He used cast frogs and points
so his track is as well detailed as his models. Jim has converted
to DCC operation with sound. |

Union Pacific Boxcar
This UP car started out in life as
a Continental Monarch kit. The were tooled in the Chicago
area and had been marketed US Hobbies at one time. The model
is the work of Jim Harper owner of High Sierra Models. Jim
added extra details such as rivet strips, underbody details,
working cut levers for the Clouser couplers, and modified
the cushion underframe to really work. The trucks are 70 ton
roller bearing by Ace (Fredfrick's) with 33" Overland
P:48 wheelsets. |
